As one of the most popular crossover SUVs of the 2018 model year, the Subaru Forester created a tough act to follow. But somehow, Subaru found a way to improve on this already impressive set of wheels.

Below are five things every car shopper should know about the 2019 Subaru Forester, expected to go on sale in October in West Palm Beach, Florida.

It’s been fully redesigned.

The exterior of the 2019 Subaru Forester shows off a brand new look, highlighted by a taller grille and new taillights, bumpers, and body cladding. Upgraded trims come with a black gloss finished grille frame, black-finished 18-inch wheels, and orange body trim.

There’s more standard power.

The size of the Forester’s 2.5L standard engine did not change since 2018, but the size of its output did. Drivers of the 2019 model will enjoy 182 horsepower, or 12 more than the previous year’s model.

There’s also more room.

There’s always room for a little more, and the 2019 Subaru Forester is evidence of that. More headroom, hip room, shoulder room, and rear legroom have all been factored into the new Forester in addition to some more cargo volume. Plus, the rear gate opens up more than 5 inches wider than in last year’s model, providing easier access to all that extra room.

Technology sees an upgrade.

Both the standard and available touchscreen displays increased in size for 2019 and the new Forester now offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.

It’s ready for the dirt.

Subaru knows its drivers, and that’s why the 2019 Forester features a textured surface on the cargo area floor and sides, as well as an interior liftgate designed to combat dirt and scuff marks. The bottoms of the front seat backs are made from an easy-to-clean PVC material.
